Selling My Soul to the Devil

Due to foolish pride, frivolous spending and my reluctance to be drawn into the working world. I have no money. Having come back from travelling indebted to my parents and the bank, I had £500 shiny pounds of my overdraft left, something I have finally seen too!

The result is the need to scrounge together all the money I can, guess where I went first...MOBILES! Tonight I have accrued the handsome sum of £51.18 for my old handsets. Tomorrow DVD's...shame I haven;t got my own Wayne Rooney!

Karma

So I am this snotty cows dogsbody at work, a guy phones in with a query -

Me - "What should Mr X do when he's finished"

Snotty Cow - "Errrm, f*ck off?! *begins snorting at her own hilarity*"

Me - "He's on loudspeaker"

Genius, totally made my day! Enter the Awkard Turtle

Can't Give It Away!

After returning back from travelling I went through the obvious and somewhat cliche of wanting to volunteer. I've done a little volunteering here and there and found it thoroughly rewarding, with work thin on the ground and boredom levels sky-rocketing it seemed perfect timing to get stuck in. On account of being a bit of a geek, I registered *online* with a local initiative which looks to place people  into volunteer positions. After a few questions and opting for what sort of volunteer work you were willing to do, I waited.

Having checked every option bar shovelling shit, I thought I was bound to get a call imminently and I would be back on track, out of a rut and doing something positive...this was three weeks ago. Past being bewildering that me volunteering my time to help somewhere, anywhere, I think it's a shame that my willingness to help someone (and trust me it's verging on a miracle such an instance arose) was ignored. Are the local council inundated with so many volunteers that they have started vetting applicants?! Sad to say, I started a job without being able to do one nice thing, not even help an old lady cross the road! Gutted!

Step One: Recesion-Proof Graduate

Nope! Despite going to a 'red-brick' and gaining that coveted (ok not the best) 2:1, 14 months after graduation I am yet to land that elusive grad-scheme! Now it may be a combination between laziness, indecisiveness and a dash of arrogance but it's getting ridiculous. Having interviewed for jobs from a software developer at IBM to a marketing grad at Barclays it has been bloody hard to convince employers it is in fact their field that I am passionate about. I know this would probably fall into "Job Application Schoolboy No. 1" but I'm yet to finalise my life plan. This takes us into laziness.

There is probably some magical way to determine where in life you are destined to go, having not yet mastered such witch craft (despite obviously toiling for hours and hours...), I am yet none-the-wiser where I want to take my life which I feel is disgustingly obvious to employers. Combine this with a willingness to work for some shitty company and bingo, we have the arrogance! I'm starting to wonder whether I set my goals too high or whether what I once believed to be media hype is in fact the journalistic equivalent of rubbing salt in the wounds - is my degree a worthless piece of paper?! It cost a bloody fortune so I hope not!

In the meantime, I pass my days temping in a fairly 'kitch' (yes, I went there) company who deal with field marketing and help keep that big ol' machine of capitalism well oiled. Sure beats being unemployed it must be said but lord knows I hope this isn't the best my student loan is capable of, if it is, I want my money back!

A Little Overdue?

In attempt to personally analyse my experiences throughout my life, I came to the decision long ago to write those major experiences down. I've completed a travel blog and multiple travel journals. Travel writing did inspire me to write down my thoughts on odd occasions but it never really stuck, the ease of blogging and my love of technology brings us here!

Let's begin with an introduction. I'm a 22 year old Graduate, I did a fairly respectable grade from a pretty decent University, nothing really out of the ordinary. I recently got back from a trip round the world which was mind blowingly good but but not especially 'unique'. I hope to document those experiences which really shape my life, not just the obvious events, not even just the good ones! Hopefully, I'll look back and answer my blogs title - fingers crossed it's a NO!
